When does a Texas trailer need a title?
For ordinary manufactured trailers, TxDMV draws a distinction at 4,000 lb gross weight: the trailer’s weight plus its carrying capacity. Above that weight, a title is required. At or below it, a previously issued title still matters.
For a used light trailer that has never been titled, the ownership evidence includes a bill of sale together with the registration receipt. A bill of sale alone should not be treated as a substitute for missing ownership records. Non-farm trailers used on public roads need registration.
New, assembled, farm, out-of-state, and disputed-ownership cases need their own instructions. The assistant directs those cases to official guidance instead of applying the ordinary-sale checklist.

It records the buyer, seller, trailer, price, date, and terms. You review it, download the PDF, and keep matching signed copies. It does not issue a title, register the trailer, or replace Form 130-U.
The generator stays separate from official forms. If your checklist identifies missing documents, resolve those before relying on an ordinary transfer process.
